Implementation
Implementation science helps bridge the gap between what we know from research and what we actually do in healthcare. It’s the study of ways to make sure research findings and evidence-based practices are actually used in everyday care. By understanding what are the facilitators or barriers to the adoption of new research-based practices, we can create strategies to make implementation easier and more effective.

Various D3SM research projects are developing new technology-based solutions for mental health. Normally, it can take 17–20 years for health research innovations to become part of regular practice in real-world healthcare settings, but Quebec’s health system wants to enable faster adaptation of digital innovations. In this context, the D3SM implementation team is working to understand the contextual factors that make it easier or harder for research-based digital solutions to be successfully used in clinical practice. This helps improve the quality and accessibility of mental health services.

Using an implementation science approach, the D3SM team is building an implementation digital toolkit to support researchers, clinicians, healthcare managers, and project leads as they move research-based digital mental health solutions into real-life healthcare settings. This toolkit will provide guidance on how to plan, implement, and evaluate digital mental health solutions uptake within Quebec’s health system.
